Small Animal Medicine

DumpyCalifon Animal Hospital offers a broad range of small animal services for dogs and cats, including general wellness, routine vaccinations, diagnostic services, dentistry, digital radiography and ultrasound, surgery, pharmacy and pet nutrition. While we do handle emergencies during regular hours, we refer all out-of-hour emergencies to Animerge. Our staff are dedicated to providing the best possible care for your pet.

General wellness starts with appropriate vaccine and deworming protocols, and we have recommendations on both here.

cat eye examDisease prevention and routine health screening of your pet is important to ensure that your pet lives a long and healthy life. While vaccinations remain the cornerstone of disease prevention, flea and tick prevention, heartworm prevention, treatment and control of parasites, and routine blood screening are also important components of our comprehensive wellness programs. Because pets age faster than humans, senior pets in particular, benefit greatly from routine examination to aid in the early detection of disease. Early detection of disease greatly enhances the effectiveness of treatment aimed at slowing the progression of chronic or degenerative diseases such as arthritis and enhances the quality of our patient’s lives.

surgeryCalifon Animal Hospital provides low-risk anesthesia and advanced anesthetic monitoring including ECG (electrocardiogram), blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation measurement, and constant monitoring of all of these parameters by our trained and experienced staff.

Dentistry

teeth brushingYour pet’s dental health is important because after all, our pets use their mouths for a variety of things other than just eating. Dogs chew on chew toys, fetch balls, and catch Frisbees, while cats may hunt their favorite toy mouse or groom themselves.

If your pet has bad breath it may not be simply malodorous or unpleasant. Bad breath may be a sign of serious dental disease which can be very painful. Our hospital offers dentistry services to help keep your pet comfortable and their mouths healthy.

Surgical Services

surgeryCalifon Animal Hospital provides surgical services including procedures such as routine spay/neuter, tumor removal, and wound repair. Because our goal is to always provide the highest level of care possible, more advanced soft tissue and orthopedic procedures may be referred to a nearby surgical specialist.

Pain Management

Our goal at Califon Animal Hospital is to insure that we enhance the quality of our patient’s lives by utilizing the most advanced medications available for the control of pain. Our veterinarians will tailor a pain management protocol specific to your pet’s needs. This includes during and following all dentistry and surgical procedures as well as the routine use of these medications for the control of chronic arthritis pain and other chronic conditions.

Hospitalization for our non-critical medical patients is available. However, because we are not a 24-hour facility, should your pet require round-the-clock monitoring your pet will need to be transferred to a nearby 24-hour facility.

Pharmacy Services

Califon Animal Hospital has an extensive veterinary pharmacy for the convenience of our clients. Federal law requires us to have an established doctor/pet/owner relationship before dispensing any prescription medication. This is why we cannot dispense prescription drugs to pets we have never seen or to pets not seen within a year

For all prescription refills, we ask that you call our office at least 24 hours in advance so that your pet's medication can be ready and waiting for you at our front desk. This allows the doctor enough time to review your pet's record and make any needed recommendations

Pet Nutrition

dogOur veterinarians can make recommendations specific to the life stage and health of your pet. Animals with chronic conditions may also be prescribed one of a variety of prescription veterinary diets that are specially formulated to address special dietary needs as well as to provide a complete and balanced diet.
